EXPERIENCE

I chose the Master in Economics at FAU because I wanted to understand the role of labor market outcomes for individuals over their life cycle, and how individuals are affected by macroeconomic changes. The study program’s flexibility with respect to choosing elective modules allowed me to advance my knowledge in the areas I am most enthusiastic about. The program and my work as a research assistant prepared me to pursue a PhD at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, as a Grattan Scholar.

As an international student from Ecuador, I chose the Master in Economics at FAU for its broad range of specializations and its highly interactive learning environment. Small classes and the constant exchange with other students and lecturers allowed me to grasp what economics is actually about. Supported by a scholarship for MSE graduates, I obtained my PhD at FAU. I now work for a consultancy in Berlin implementing projects for international development cooperation.

The Master of Science in Economics at FAU greatly enhanced my empirical, analytical, and problem-solving skills and prepared me for a career in international development cooperation. After graduation, I joined GIZ to work on development projects in the context of public financial management. Recently, I moved to Knorr-Bremse Global Care, a non-profit organization with the mission to offer new prospects to people who find themselves in need.

Besides a broad selection of electives and specializations, the Master’s program in Economics provided valuable insights into business applications through seminars and guest lectures. The program gave me not only profound theoretical knowledge but also helped me develop strong analytical and critical thinking skills that are essential for a successful career in today’s working environment. After graduation, I joined Amazon as a Financial Analyst Transportation.
