Does the program have a focus on specific fields or topics in economics?
The program is a general economics Master program and provides a solid education in all major field in economics. However, special attention is paid to modern methods of data analysis and on applications in a variety of fields, including labor economics, public economics, macroeconomics and finance, energy markets, and health economics.
Can the program be studied fully in English? Are there German language requirements?
The language of instruction of all core subjects and a large variety of electives is English. Therefore, the MSE can be studied fully in English. As a result, the student body is very international. German skills are welcome, but not required.
Is it possible to submit my English language certificate after the application deadline?
The application is valid only if it contains all required documents.
Is there an upper limit regarding the number of students admitted to the Master’s program?
The number of students we can admit to the Master’s program is not limited. Therefore, every suitable applicant will be admitted.
How can I convert my grades to the German grading system?
The calculation of equivalent grades will be carried out based on the modified Bavarian Formula. Please note that grades are rounded and their weight depends on the number of credits earned.
Can I apply without having completed my Bachelor’s studies?
Applying before completion of your Bachelor‘s studies at the time of application is possible, but applicants must provide an official transcript of all examination results to date and their weighted average grade. A minimum of 135 ECTS (75% of the required credits for completion) is required.
Is a Bachelor’s degree in economics required to be admitted to the Master’s program?
Applicants should have an academic degree in economics, business administration, mathematics, social sciences, engineering, or related disciplines. To be admitted, applicants need to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of economics.
Do I have to send in certified documents with my application?
All applicants are requested to apply online, using FAU’s web portal Campo. Officially certified copies of relevant certificates, diplomas and other documentation issued overseas are required for applying for a place to study at FAU as well as for enrolment. When is the application deadline?
The online application is open from May 1st up to and including May 31st of each year.
